Know the warning signs
If you see these in someone you love, ask them directly: "Are you thinking about suicide?" Asking doesn't plant the idea. It opens a door.
- Talking about wanting to die, being a burden, or having no reason to live
- Giving away things, saying goodbye, or a sudden calm after a dark stretch
- Pulling away from friends, family and things they used to love
- More drinking or drug use, reckless behavior
- Big changes in sleep or eating
